300sl engine oil leak
I have a 1993 300sl with a 6 cylinder 24 valve type 104 engine my problem is when I park it reversed up a slope and the car is also slopping sideways with the low part of the slope to the right of the car ,when I start the car it blows or leaks oil very badly.
It does not leak oil in any other position and the cylinder compressions are very good.
The plastic tray under the engine gets covered in oil and there is a large stain on the ground.
If it is reversed up a slope but is sitting level sideways it does not leak
likewise it does not leak oil at any othe time.
Can anyone give me a clue as to where the leak is as it is hard to see for the manifold ect
Regards

Is there a hole? That is my guess!
My SL600 belly cover holds lots of stuff, and overflows depending on where I park. ( camber of the road, attitude of the engine compartment )
IMHO all older benz engines leak something!
Good luck on your quest! where in the world are you?

I am living in Geelong it is about 45 miles from Melbourne in Australia .
Thanks for your reply ,the leak appears to be coming from the top of the engine block on the right hand side ,today I removed the belly cover and cleaned the area and will leave the cover off to track the leak . The leak may also be coming from the fan shaft oil seal on the timing cover and running down the right hand side of the engine block, but it only leaks when on a slope as explained but it seems to leak under pressure ,when the car is in this position like oil blows out and alot not just a leak.

blowing oil is only good in wildcat drilling!
I am not an owner of the six cylinder in your version, but I have read blogs about a upper engine gasket problem, a search in either "world" sites may help.
Good luck with your toy!
