1997 SL320 Check Engine light
Leaving the gas cap off after refueling activated the Check Engine Light. It did not reset after the recommended three restarts. I then disconected the battery and the light did go off. Now the engine will not even idle properly and i am afraid to drive it. I would appreciate any help before I call and get it towed.
Yes the radio needs to be reset and I do not have the codes. Would appreciate help here too.

Did a code read indicate the gas cap was the problem? ( not the primary cause?? )
Does the engine ( regardless of idle ) run the normal RPM range? or is it in a LHM?
Dealers can get a radio code, but the owners manual book, (in my case ) has the code on a card. One Benz had the card taped to a panel in the trunk, near the CD, antenna mast. You might look around to see if that was done by a prior owner or Dealer.
Good luck
