Does anyone have a hardtop hoist?
I was wondering if anyone had a hardtop hoist or if someone could recomend a manufacture. I am looking to get one but not sure which one to buy. I don't want to buy one and then find it droping my roof on my SL...THANKS!

I have an elctric hardtop winch for sale. Made for Lorinser by Transuero Group Inc. Very nice. Box mounts on the wall and winch cable hangs from pulley mounted on the ceiling of your garage. The car roof mount is made by Yakima and is adjustable for different roof widths.

I just used a boat trailer winch and two pulleys. Had the wife sew a "harness" out of nylon webbing (same stuff seat belts are made of) to pick up the actual top. Works like a champ with a total cost of under a 100 bucks. I haven't been able to use the setup since we moved to our new house because the garage ceiling does not have enough vertical clearance for it (or any other setup).

hand crank version
being cheap, using infrequently ( twice a year ) and not trusting things with motors, I bought the "Tiger" with an 800lb capacity. It operates with a hand crank. It has a padded sling and good lifting/lowering rate ( positioning of the paint scraping tines on the metal top ). I have a cart for storage with "bags" to keep dust and vermin to a minimum!

I built my own. Ended up using a mild steel frame and pads that support the top from underneath. For a design, I looked at some of the more expensive lifts and came up with my own solution. Here's some photos of it during the build process. I bought an electric hoist from Harbor Freight to complete the setup.
Not to come across as a sales pitch, but I no longer have the car. So this is sitting in my attic collecting dust right now along with a hardtop stand. If any of you are interested in either of these, shoot me a reasonable offer for one or both. Email is rellingson@satx.rr.com

Lift is SOLD. Thanks guys for looking. If you are seriously considering one of these, I would recommend a design similar to this as it does not put any pressure on the window seals.
