SL/R129: SL soft top issue

1999 mb sl600
SL soft top issue
Replaced both top lock cylinders because of oil leakage.
Checked hydraulic oil and was low. Added oil to max line. Removed hard top and tried to raise soft top. Top will go up and everything is fine until the hard boot locks in place and the rear of the top tries to go down. Gets about half way and then stops and returns to previous position. Waits about 5 seconds and will try again with the same results. Soft top is able to be fully retracted and hard top installs correctly with one exception. Switch light stays on and alarm will sound when trying to drive car indicating that soft top function is not complete. Have resynched windows and still get same results. Anyone Help?

check front lock micro switch signal

the most likely candidate for the fault is one of the front lock micro switches. Maybe one of the levers that trigger the switches got bumped a little.
Here is how to check this fairly easily:
When you are getting the error message with the top up, insert the soft top tool in one of the front locks and turn it further to the locked position - as far as it will reasonably go. This will take any play out of the lock and trigger the micro switch if it is not broken. With the tool held in this position, will the error message go away?
Repeat the same for the other side.
Please let us know what you are finding, and we will take it from there.

Soft top issue
After a thourough inspection I found that the left top cylinder cover seemed to be higher then the right cyinder cover. I removed the top to inspect the lock cylinders and found that the left cylinder had been installed over the forward clips instead of in the clips properly. I inserted the cover in the clips on both side and installed all screws and bolts and the top now functions properly. Thanks so much for the assistance.
