99' sl500 will not start
I was driving my 99' SL 500 yesterday and the car turned off. When I pulled over and got stopped the car would not restart. Had the soft top down so I tried to raise it up and it would not move. Tried replacing the battery and it had no effect. When key is in ignition everything lights up on the dash like normal but when you turn key to start it does nothing. The car locks work but you cannot raise the soft top up. The red button just blinks. Like I mentioned earlier I replaced the battery and checked all of the fuses with a fuse tester and they all checked out o.k. Any other suggestions?

Your car has a M113 engine and is known to have Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) problems. It's my guess based upon what you said happened that you need to replace this $40.85 p/n 026121017
This happens when the car gets hot and it just stops running for no reason other than heat. If you carry a one gallon container of water you can lift the hood and pour the cool water at the rear of the Engine where the engine meets the Bell Housing and this is where the CPS is located. this should cool the CPS and the engine should start.
Please see MY 99-02 M113 Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) R&R Please review the entire thread.
