I know there must be more than 3 V12 SLs...
For the most part, we love our SLs regardless of displacement but how many other V-12 SL owners are there in MBWorld?
I know that there have to be more than 3 of us! (LOL)
I see so little about the SL600s compared to the I6 and V8 variants. I've had mine for going on 2 years and I have yet to cross paths with another SL600 in almost 20,000 miles of road time including my journeys across five states.
Please stop by the Summit and post a picture or two of your baby if you're out there. I'd love to see them.

We're out here. I've had mine for 2 months now and am utterly impressed
every time I light him off and go for a drive. No one should go through life
without having at least one V12.

Just got her May 15th of this year
My first Benz ever. 97 SL-600 45k miles. Runs as good as it looks.
Couldn't be happier. Love the V-12...Couldn't care less what happens to the price of gas.
I was able to upload some additional pics in the 129 Photo Forum

Hello Robertstjo,
I'm glad to know that you are out there. I was starting to worry that maybe our cars were as rare as hens teeth. I guess that thats not so bad though. I like watching the expressions on the faces of other drivers when they look down her side and do a double-take on that V12 badge.
Sometimes I have to act like I don't see them checking her out. This one guy at a drive thru window took the money that I gave him and as he pulled back into the burger joint, he turned back to me as if something caught his eye. He stuck his head out of the window and pointed down at Lisa's nose. "Are you serious?"
(It just brings out the Rastafarian in me.)
"Yeahman, dats right man. A full dozen ah dem babies man..."

JLC5, rest assured that V12s are very rare and seldom seen. Even here in Tokyo where you see the whole spectrum of foreign imports, MBs including AMG and other tuners, it is very seldom that I come across S or SL V12. It is simply that rare. The overall mentality here is that V12 is simply too much and excessive.

When I first got the Benz I wasn't real keen on the color. I have grown to appreciate & admire the color...very classy indeed.
Bought the V-12 badge on e-bay, it came from Japan & it was about $10. Very good quality piece.
That right rear trunk area was just screaming for some attention so I thought why not boast a little more about the V-12? Seemed like a natural spot for it.
I've had the plate since 2002, it's a real hoot. I get more great comments about that plate than you could ever imagine. Transferred it from my Navigator in May when I bought the Benz. Much more relevent on a Mercedes Benz, two seater, roadster convertible V-12. I've been self-employed for over 20 years so yeah....I am a true capitalist!! Gotta love it!

Hey ad man,
I'm glad to see you've named your car. Mine's name is Wilbur, Wilbur Silberpfeil.
We name all of our cars. The 1966 300SE Cab. is One so Rare, the 2009 Smart is Biggie or
more correctly L'il Biggie - Tiny was already taken by the Dodge one ton. They're others
but no need to go into that now. They're all part of the family along with the horsies and
doggies.

Amen.
On another topic, I just ordered 11 replacement hydraulic cylinders for Lisa.
Should be in in a week or so. Can't wait to have her top back in full swing.
How about the rest of you? Hydraulics all working well?

So far no leaks. I've only had him for two months. I think the PO had the windshield units
replaced under warranty once.
The hydraulics need to be used regularly to keep the seals working otherwise the will dry
up, harden and leak. As with other things - use em or lose them.

Bought a V12 couple of weeks ago. 1997 SL600 black, 38k miles primo condition. My first drop top...what a car.
I'll put up a couple of pix when I figure out how to. Glad to be part of this. Have to stop grinning like an idiot when I drive it.

Anyway guys, there are 3 pictures. These cars are remarkably solid. Everything opens and snaps shut with authority. Hellacious car. Stand on it at 60.....triple digits comes up quick.

1996 SL600
I just bought my first Mercedes about 6 weeks ago - 1996 SL600, 89,000 miles. It was owned by a woman who could not afford to take car of a car of this caliber, so she didn't. So I have been making up for some "Deferred Maintenance". But it is a beautiful car and a dream to drive. I removed all 12 of the Hydraulic Roof Cylinders and sent them off to Top Hydraulics to have them rebuilt, and now the top works flawlessly.

Thanks TrulyTex for the tip on photobucket. I've created an account, and I will be uploading my pictures soon.
Please feel free to join us in the Summit forum for V-12 SLs. You can share those beautiful pictures of your car with us there as well. I know it's a small site, but we're just starting out. It'd be great to have more owners with V-12s so if you know anyone else, point them in that direction.
Thanks,
-jlc-
