500SL ignition(?) problem
Hi!
I recently bought a -92 500SL 100.000 miles on the clock. She's a real beaty, but in a bad mood every now and then.
The main problem seems to be poor ignition when hot/warm. The car starts poorly. The symptoms are:
- ABS light stays on
- Fuel consumption meter doesnt work
- Soft top operation doesnt work (does not open or close)
- Engine is running 200-400 rpm too high, not too smoothly and engine coolant gets 15-20 celcius warmer than normally.
- Door wont lock automatically while driving (central locking works)
Usually all the symptoms go away in a minute while letting car idle. It revs up for a second to 1200rpm and all the symptoms above go away. Some times you have to drive a couple of miles to symptoms to go away, but recently up to 20 miles. Until yesturday this only happened when starting the car, but yesturday in the middle of the drive.
I had the same problem with the car two months back, but it disappeared for a month before I had an opportunity to get it serviced.
Trying to get it serviced "in time" this time, but any tips I could check before would be appreciated.
So far I've:
- Checked the fuses and replaced bad looking ones
- Changed plugs
- Changed distributor caps and rotors
Thank you very much and sorry my bad english
