SL/R129: SL600 Engine Power Lags

SL600 Engine Power Lags
I recently purchased a 1998 SL600 with 75k miles. At 3/4 throttle, the car accelerates reasonably well but at about 3500 rpm, it really takes off. I am wondering if the lag at lower rpm is normal?

Don't know! I have the benz out today, I will punch it and track the motion.
With the "nanny" features on my 94 it is difficult to spin the wheels. In our community many of the streets have 20mph posting and I am up to the speed limit just after the car passes the crosswalk!
I have noticed that the transmission in my old version keeps the 2nd level for a longer period when the temp of the fluid isn't up, but that is a design feature of the old 4 speed.
The car passing kickdown is impressive, for the 60-100mph range. after that it is all illegal fun.
Sorry I have no expertise in your transmission.
