Pushing the Average Up

I'll be 71 in June feel like 50 and have a 1990 300SL.

Thanks to Dennis Ficken and a lot of work I can still raise & lower the top without an oil shower.

Where to start? The Italians or the Germans?
I'll be 19 in two weeks. My father bought me my SL500. He also let me drive his Gallardo and F355 and E60 M5 and I can honestly say I would not give up my R129 for any of those. The SL is my favorite car. We've rented an F430 and a couple of Porsches. None of these cars could ever receive the same love/attention as my Benz. So in other words, yes the 129 is cool enough to own at a young age simply b/c its so much fun and very sexy in the right color.

Okay now here's a question for ya... is it volcano red? or magma red for the SL? I've heard both.

Thanks a lot, they do look nice. Although I wouldn't complain if i had a dark grey/black SL73... They have a certain "eat you for dinner" look when they are done right.

I don't have the money, my 'rents do. I wish I did though. The F355 is a nice car, don't get me wrong. But it has no torque. I think the SL500 of mine has more tq than the F355. And the F355 has a slightly awkward seating position. Your feet kind of go off to the right a little bit 'cuz of all the pedals Ferrari crammed in between the front wheels. And the steering wheel does not adjust at all. I definitly like the Gallardo over the Ferrari. the Fcar is just simply too tame.

My $.02

Thanks for clearing that issue up. I would be interested to see a car with the blue hue. I bet it is interesting. I would say the Magma Red is almost a vermillion wouldn't you?

'08 C 300 Sport, '01 SL 500 & '08 Nissan Frontier SE Crew Cab 4WD
31 As of a couple of weeks ago. I own a 2001 W129 (41k) mile car. I fulfilled two child hood dreams before the age of 35. Last year I sold my '88 Carrera Cabriolet, and was looking for a W129 years prior to getting that car. Truth be told I ran into several W129's that year from the Silver Arrow that was around $33K to a few sports in the mid twenties, and some junkers in the "cheap range" I gave up and bought what I thought was my "first love" the 911 Cab but after I got the car realized how much of a PITA it was to live with, a joy to drive none the less. Here I am today, and living out the second have of my early mid-life and couldn't be happier. Some guys are into old-cars, Motorcycles, Jeeps and fishing boats, My W129 is my love.

Just out of curiosity, what prompted you to sell the SL in favor of the e34 M5? I have a stripped out E36 325I that I use as a weekend/track day car and love it to death so your talking to a fellow Bimmer guy.
