Bonjour!

I want to get an SL... and trying to do some research into all the models first.

Can you all please tell me what are the differences in the R129 SL's from years gone by?

Like when did the Panaromic Glass roof come in,
changes to the side slats,
new headlights etc etc

This info would be very much appreciated.

The car was introduced in 89, first major make-over was in 96 when the bumper covers and side air vents were modified, the seats also. There was a last gasp makeover to stretch the car because the R230 was late in around 99/2000 when you got the silver instrument surrounds. The SL600 was dropped at this point and the car got a lower powered V8.

I'd avoid a pre-96 if you can, but after that it will be a question of condition rather than age. The age of the car doesn't matter much, essential you get one with full service history and absolutely no problems in the roof, electrics and hydraulics, all of which are expensive to fix.

In Dec 2002, I was pleased to buy a 1999 SL as my first MB. Influenced partially by the updated engine the R129 was equiped with in 1999.

The same engine MB uses in the current R230 SL series.
