Deck Lid won't OPEN

Hello folks--len here from Michigan. Have a 2000 sl500. Took the hardtop off and raised the soft top. All worked perfectly. A couple weeks later; I can't lower the soft top.
The back window raises , but the deck lid will not release so that everything can go back into that space. The windows and roll bar work correctly.
I was NOT able to release the deck lid by using the thin wrench.
Thanks for any help. I am an oldler geezzzer at 72 so could use some help...

Two hydraulic cylinders (left and right) raise the back window "fabric bow". There is a limit switch on the rod of the left cylinder which closes when the bow is completely raised. I suggest you begin by looking for that switch and see if there is an obvious problem.

Thank you for your suggestions. Today we lowered the roof manually and raised it manually. Was not able to lock the roof in the front by the visors. Tried the electric switch to lower and it lowered perfectly and then it also raised perfectly.
ONE thing that had been working while the roof was not working---is the ROLL BAR. Now that the roof is working with the electric the ROLL BAR does not work --go up and down automatically with the raising or lowering. Not a big deal at this time and am some afraid to try the roll bar with the switch on the dash.
Any chance the roll bar sequence has something to do with my previous problem.

Thank you for taking the time to share with me--very much appreciated.

The roll bar is supposed to go up and down with the top? I don't believe that mine does.

Yes. The top sequence will not commence unless the controller receives confirmation via limit switch that the roll bar is in the down position.

When you press the roof control switch if the roll bar is down it should not move at any time in the automatic sequence.
