1997 SL 600 AMG

Can someone please explain to me the difference between a 1997 SL 600 and a 1997 SL 600 AMG? Or can you direct me to where I can find the information? Thanks.

1994 AMG E60 (W124); 1997 SL600; & few others that I cannot fit in here
The former is what I have owned for since 1999, which is the "normal" MB with V12 and mine has the exclusive options which are seats and so forth.

The latter (AMG) which was available here in Japan then (not sure of the ROW), was tuned up version by AMG i.e.. higher performances, meaning they worked on the motor for higher HP etc. and had different exterior panels, thus at the time costing like 30k more than the former.

Not sure the post I am sending my opinion to but if this is the R129 question about the 97 SL 600 then the AMG tag may be very special or fraud.
The ID number is the tell.
AMG has done extensive engine modification and body change with MB full endorsement ( I had an R 199 gullwing, 2012 ) and I have looked at car auctions at AMG badge vehicles that had minor body external modifications and no engine changes.

To my knowledge, there is no such thing. You can have a sport package with sport bumper and AMG wheels, but an "AMG" SL600 is actually bored to 7.0 or 7.3 litres and badged SL70 or SL73.

MAYBE MB sold an SL600 with sport package in some market with an AMG badge. I'm not aware of it, but it's plausible.

Unless I have evidence of the contrary, I would assume someone just stuck an AMG badge onto it.
