Signal switch

My 1999 SL500's signal switch is not shutting off after turning a corner both right and left. Do I need a new signal/wiper switch or is there another idea?

No and I don't know what a SAM or a stalk is other than deer hunting and Sam hill! What I do know is that the whole insides move up and down a bit like something is worn inside......both the turn signal and cruise control.

I found an old thread on the subject which read "I was told the cause of the non cancel issue was the boot or surround over the column was loose, which in fact it was. My independent drilled a small hole in the bottom of the column and repositioned the boot and tightened everything up. Seems to have solved the fast directional as well as the cancel issue.
If you are a DYI person I've seen threads here on doing the drill routine but I just wasn't comfortable drilling a hole when I don't know whats behind it."

This looks cheaper than buying a new switch!

You are correct. It helps, immensely if you take off the steering wheel. And, if you remove your instrument panel, then you don't need to drill the hole. I drilled the hole, though.

If you over-adjust, your steering wheel will squeak.

I have replaced the switch in a C class. It's doable but not fun. You'll need to have the airbag code reset after you disconnect them in the steering wheel. There was a YouTube video for the C class and owning both cars, I'd bet you could use that to figure out the SL
