Rear center brake light
I have had the dealer repair, and several times I have repaired the wire on the right side of the trunk for rear center brake light (on the trunk lid). There is always one LED that does not light. Is is a bad repair, or can the LEDs burn out? (1996 SL320)

3RD Brake Light
I was having the same problem, it seemed that I replaced on light bulb and another failed. The mechanic found that the strip that holds the all the bulbs was damaged. The end of the strip snaps into place with a holder on the inside of the car. Since mine was not secured the strip would move when driving and going over bumps, this cause static when the bulbs came in contact with other parts.
I had the entire strip unit replaced; no problem since then. Mercedes charges around $ 140 for a piece of plastic to hold the bulbs, I would check around the internet and look for this part, it probably will cost less that $ 30.00. I looked while the mechanic was changing the unit, and let me tell you if you remove it, you’ll be able to figure out how to install in 10 minutes and save $ 100.00 for what the dealer charges.
