1990 SL300 rear differential bearing kit
I was hoping someone might have a parts list for a complete set of bearing for a SL300 - automatic rear differential - pinion bearing is gone and transmission shop looking to re-bearing the entire rear end but can only find OEM Mercedes parts out of Germany - does anyone have a list or cross reference list for north american versions - any help would be appreciated. Car only has 76,000 KM but rear end is toats which is the strange thing in itself...
Cheers,
dave

CAR has ABS but not the other two - ASR I don't think was an option on 1990 300SL - it's one of there reasons I bought it instead of the SL500 - less gadgets...

Depend to the car spec.,
my friend had 90 "R129 300Sl" with (ASR) long time ago, you maybe refers to "U.S/Canada" version only..!,,
do you need all (3) bearings..?, if so, prefer to forward your VIN #, to make sure giving correct part #s..

Regarding to your VIN#:-
A) Gear/Ring bearings #: "000 980 19 02", 2-pieces.
B) Pinion bearings:-
*inner #: "000 980 84 02", 1-piece.
*outer #: "002 980 11 02", 1-piece.

Now hoping that someone might have a cross reference list or detailed description of the bearings to see if I can find a generic or locally available part to replace these OEM MB part #
I was hoping to not have to order them from GERMANY as it will take a long time to arrive...

You might try FPC Euro in the US. They list all three parts. I've dealt with them in the past and it's been a good experience. There are also other vendors out there that my be able to help.
000 980 19 02 (the picture of this bearing shows an SKF bearing, an SKF part number, and "Made in the USA".)
002 980 11 02
000 980 84 02
Hope this helps.
Peter.

I have used FPC Euro before as well - weird thing is when you go onto their website they say the part numbers say they do not fit my 1990 300SL -
unless their listing is wrong - from the VIN number someone with access to a OEM MB parts listing might be able to confirm the part numbers are correct - sure hate to order them and find out they are not right...

Your VIN # stated that, all part # provided are correct,
but prefer if you can take some good pics., or pull out the diff. to make sure if it's ABS or ASD..!,,
occasionally; previous owners change stock parts, can't tell positively if your "300Sl" still as original stock or not..!??!

I have all the original owners dealer service records - no mention of differential service work - the car although a 1990 has only 76,000 km (47,000 miles) - everything on the car is stock factory MB bits from the MB air filter to the OEM oil filter... last major service was the 60,000 KM or 40,000 mile service at the dealer. thinking it would as their would be no reason to change with so few miles.
Thanks for the clarification on the part numbers
on the expanded diagram I have gotten from the dealer - was wondering about parts 38, 35 and 17 plus # 140 ( I think that the pinion seal ) the other parts look like shims and thrust washers - I think I should order those at the same time - any idea on OEM part # for those bits...

Part #17 is a thrust washer (2 needed) A184 353 04 62
Part #38 & 39 are not for your differential. (All numbers in grey squares on the diagrams I sent you list as "Not valid for this model".)
Part #140 is the pinion seal A022 997 99 47
