Add New radio to 95 SL500
Has anyone had any luck installing a new head unit to this car while utilizing the exsisting speakers and amplifier? I want to add cd capability and Sirius sat radio. comments anyone?

If it's anything like my 96 SL600, the radio is a standard head unit made by Panasonic and the amplifier made by Becker lives under the back seat and drives the two speakers in each door. The tweeters at the each end of the dash are driven directly from the head unit.
The amp is driven from the loudspeaker output of the head unit, not a line level output. My solution was to dump it all, fit new loudspeakers in each door (the standard ones are very mediocre quality), put a modest (70W per channel) amp in the trunk, in the left hand well and replace the head unit. That way, you can get the sound quality you want and retain the fitted look of the speakers. Works fine.

The OEM radios have an auxillary input in the back for CD,ect and your sattelite connector can go into there.I was trying to decide whether to go CD player or Sattelite radio in my 1995 SL 320 and my brother convinced me just to go with XM or Sirius.It is easy to install and the antennae is super small now,so it can go anywhere in the car.Once you hear the digital music,you will be hooked forever.

1995 SL 320
I am in the process of replacing my door speakers (Bose) and am having a hard time finding aftermarket ones that will fit into the brackets in the door.Any suggestions? I want to retain the original look on the doors if posssible.
