Turn signal issue

1997 SL500 the turn signal will only flash on the left side regardless if the lever is in the left or right position. the right side will not illuminate at all.
suspect the steering column switch but not sure. the wipers work.
is this a known problem?
thanks. G Stevens

Are you saying that your left side turn signals blink when you push the lever up, or just that your right signals do not work?

if the lever is pushed up or down only the left signals will operate. the right side does not work.

So the left signals work both times? That's odd.

Exactly Same issue!

hi Stevens did you managed to resolve your issue? I replaced my signal switch stalk completely with an origjnal part and the issue remains the same.

1) hazard lights work perfectly for both sides
2) left signal becomes right. Right is right.

I think our problems are exactly the same and maybe because I'm on a left hand drive (driver on right) so our symptoms are opposite.

350 SL, R230 - 300 SL, R129 - 1964 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe - Porsche 911 Twin Turbo (sold)
If the 1997 SL, R129 use the same wiper, turn signal, combination relay as the as the 1992 SL (Part number 129 820 10 26) the relay might very well the problem

I have to open up this relay on my car because the right side turn signal stays lit all the time (Even when the car is stopped and locked)
So i have to take off the negative battery cable so i do not drain the battery..
