Xenon headlights vs standard

I have a beautiful 2001 SL500. It has everything I've been looking in an R129. Except for Xenon headlights. Is that worth the conversion? What is the lighting differential n the road between the two? Can a kit be self installed? Is it difficult?
Thanks

My 2000 has xenon's, my wifes 1999 does not. WOW what a difference, where the xeon's are far superior than expectations, the std lights are far inferior, infact dangerous.

I am going to make the swap on the wifes 99, (have a 99 T-Boned wreck with xeons), but as much as I have a parts car with everything needed, the xeons have a self leveling mechanism that works off of sensors at the 4 corners, with a wire harness. So the question is, can you install without the harness and sensors, I don't know, looking into it myself. If the harness and sensors are needed, I would have to evaluate how much I want to rip everything apart to install.. TBD

There is another option, the Euro stnd lights are better than the USA ones, and they can be purchased and swapped it easily, there is a thread on doing this either on benzworld, or the 500Eboard. When I find the thread, I'll come back here and post a link to it.

OK here is a picture of them, post 24,

OK, found a better thread here;

Good Luck...

Thanks for the info! I stopped by my MB Dealer to inquire what new ones installed might cost. The parts guy told me they will not even do it at their site anymore. Says it needs an internal part the controls the lights (Sorry, I can't remember what he called it). He said it was a real pain, he was quoting me some prices, and I stopped at $3800! He told me to just use Sylvania Silverstar bulbs, they fit right in the standard lights and are far better.
