Tire help please.

I needed a new set of shoes for my SL, I tried Toyo Proxis but after a month and 500+ miles I still can't get a good ride due to balance issues @ 35, 70, ..., harmonics - concentricity uugh.

After many visits the (tire) dealer is going to swap them. Since I had Michelin Pilot Sports last go-round and they were good, that's what I'll revert to..

Unless y'all change my mind.

Best Regards,

Barry

I have done lots of research when I put tires on my 97 sl500. After hours of research I purchased the Pirelli PZero Nero's. I tell ya the have been GREAT!!!! They are super quite(especally when the top is down) and hold the road really well. I can say that I am a spirited driver and I have yet to push the edge of the tires. These tires are also great in water. Chicago has seen LOTS of rain the last few weeks and I have yet to hydroplane the tires. My dad had yoko's on his 2001 sl500 and once he drove my car he went out the next day and put the PZero's on his car. I have had the tires on for about 7k miles and there is no sign of wear. I bought these tires from TireRack about a year ago and had them installed by a local tire shop who mainly do BMW, Mercedes and Porsches. They asked me how why I picked these tires and since they never put them on a car they wanted my feed back because they wanted more options to give to there clients. After about 2 months of driving I got a call from the shop asking how I like the tires. I told them how happy I was and they said that they would start to recommend them. About 6 months later I was putting new tires on my wife's car at that shop and they said that they recommend the PZero to allot of there clients and everyone said that they are great tires and about 50% of the people they recommend the tires to get them. Another great thing is that they are not to pricey. The only thing that you will notice with these tires is that they have a tendency to tramline(follow the lines in the road). They will pull just a bit but it took me about 500miles before I stopped noticing the slight pull.

I'd go with the Yokohama db S2's, they're ultra high performance, but they are extremely quiet, Luke from tirerack said that they are the quietest tire he has ever tested...

I was looking at the PS2s, but, after some research I found that many dealers haven't even seen them yet since they are so new.

Here's one response from a dealer:

" It took 8 to find 4 good ones and I told the guy what was going on and he decided to switched tires. He said he had read some reveiws online of other people with the same problems. The hype on all new tires is made by the manufacturer. They always get magazines to write up stories on new products, but there hasnt been time to work all the bugs out. "

ANother dealer told me virtually the same thing, a big problem with them being out of round, hence, the balancing issues. A manufacturer problem with the molds.

PS2

I've heard the exact same story from several dealers. Another non exsistant tire in the US is the Pilot Primacy.

I was also told that the PS2's are not available in 245 45 17.

I'm going to stick to the Pilots just because I'm tired and I want to drive my car without tire regret.
