Brembo Brakes
In the few instances where I have had to slam on the binders in an emergency situation ... I was impressed how well the brakes stop this heavy car.
I read somewhere recently (likely in an old car review) that the R129 was set up at the factory with the Brembo Braking system ...
Can anyone confirm this?
I have driven this car since 2002 ... long before I knew of Brembo Bakes. That is kind of cool.

Mercedes actually designed a system for this - Brake Assist. I don't think the R-129 had that. Unless it was in development & put on their flag ship R-129.

Quote from the 1998 R129 Owner's Handbook:
"The Brake Assist System is designed to maximize the vehicle's braking capability during emergency braking manoeuvres by having maximum power boost applied to the brakes more quickly in emergency braking conditions than might otherwise be afforded solely by the driver's braking style. This can help reduce braking distances over what ordinary driving and braking style might do. The BAS complements the Antilock Brake System (ABS).
To receive the benefit of the system you must apply continuous full braking power during the stopping sequence. Do not reduce brake pedal pressure.
Once the brake pedal is released, the BAS is deactivated.
The indicator lamps for the ASR and ESP are combined with the BAS indicator lamp.
The BAS/ASF, or BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp in the instrument cluster come on with the key in steering lock position 2 and should go out with the engine running."
Hope this helps,
Peter.

Chris,
My recollection is Brembo was not with Benz in the 90's some tuners have switched to the 4 and 6 cylinder modern brakes but not in the early years from the factory.
Your 99 is worlds apart from the first R 129. Glad they work. The 600 can shut down fast but not like the 993!
