SL/R129: 92 500SL Won't start

92 500SL Won't start
Battery was discharged, I charged it then started car. Drove it for about 30 minutes, turned off and restarted fine. Put trickle charger on battery, disconnected about 30 minutes later. Started car but heard a "popping" noise and noticed white smoke coming out of hood on drivers side in front of windshield. Opened hood, smoke had dissipated but couldn't find or smell anything burnt. Checked fuses but all are good. Car will now not start, seems like its not getting any fuel to the engine. Any ideas?

Underhood smoke is not a good sign. Find the cause of it: burned wires, smoke residue, etc. From your description, it sounds like something electrical burned up. What did the smoke smell like? A post in the S500 forum will probably deliver more and better replies.

I'd first do a quick and easy check that the fuel injection is healthy.
Locate the round diagnostic socket located by the ABS unit on the left inner fender. It has 9 sequentially-numbered sockets. With the engine off and cold measure the voltage between #6 (battery) and #2 (chassis ground). Then measure the voltage between #3 (diagnostics) and #2: this should be c. 70% of the battery voltage (the prior measurement), and any other result indicates a fault.
If that checks, then I would crank the engine and check for the presence of spark at the plugs. I presume you are familiar with that fundamental test.
