Rim Dimensions that fit R129 - How important is offset?
My apologies if such a thread exists, but I tried searching and didn't find anything.
I need help pretty quick. My R129 got rear-ended and totalled on Friday. My insurance company is allowing me to keep my 18" Monoblock II's that are on the vehicle right now, as long as I can replace the tires with any other set of rims/tires.
My question - I know the offset for my rims are 29mm front and 35mm rear - what would happen if I put in a 5x112 rim with a different offset like 45? I don't care if the car looks goofy or if this offset number causes the tire to stick out or whatever, I just need it to be able to roll... it can't be driven.
Can I just slap on any 5 x 112?
HELP! And huge thanks in advance!

IMHO, offsets are used to handle clearance issues, correct? Those 18s have to be awfully wide in order to get tires to fit into the wheel wells. I would look for narrower rims with the same bolt pattern, preferably from around the same age as your car. The car is only going to roll just 100s of feet before the insurance company is done with it. IF any R129s came with space saver spares, go ahead and use those, they should clear the calipers etc. Good luck !!!
