I currently have a mint 09 sl550 with 15K miles on it. Problem is my wife want to take it to work on hot days. I cringe at this because of door dings and what ever. Although she is more **** about her own car than I am with mine you never know what some a hol might do. Anyway was thinking at getting her something I don't have to worry about. Looking at a 91 sl500 no dings scratches or dents. 115 miles on it. Top looks real nice. wheels flaking. interior nor to bad. guy wants 8500. he swears book is11k. im looking at KBB and 92 goes for 4500-6500 good condition. Book only goes back to 92. Known this guy all my life , don't think hes trying to scew me hes older and probably ****ed a little in the head. I know he threw a couple grand in it 2 years ago to get the top to function correctly. Is there something I'm missing on the 91's that were special? My top price would be 5K

In my 50-ish years in the car biz I never saw where a guy bought his wife a POS to drive, while he got the nice ride, ever work out as the guy thought it might. And trust me.....when you get that 91 home and park it right next to the 550, it's going to look like a POS....... especially to her !!! Using your plan to buy something to keep your car pristine, and if you want to keep everything really happy on the home front, you have to buy her something at least as good, if not better, and it becomes "her car".
