I'm looking for xenon headlights for my '96 sl500. Does anyone know of a good source for them? What about aftermarket bulbs, ballasts, or other kits such as:
http://www.xenonfactory.com/products/hid/philips.htm ? Do xenons require a different plastic lens on the headlight ?
Are they even worth the dough?
Any help, experiences, or links would be appreciated.

I definitely discourage using aftermarket kits, when an OEM kit is available. I do not know where in the world you are located, but for most everywhere in the world where a 1996 SL500 is located, it is illegal to use an aftermarket kit.

Plus, the stock headlights in the R129 are so hideously awful that fitting an aftermarket bulb in it is an exercise in futility. The OEM kits are actual projector designs, similar to what is used in most of the current MB models with HIDs available.

An OEM kit might be available from Steve (MBenzNL), try his e-mail at steve@mbenznl.com ... I think I heard from him that he had only one in stock so I am not sure if he still has them anymore. Give it a try.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the real reason why R129s with xenons do not have headlamp washers? I've heard all kinds of stories, I'm wondering if anyone knows the actual reason. Usually, on Benzes, xenon is paired with headlamp washers.
