I just recently bought an OLD 1990 SL500 with a hard top. The rag top works but of course it has to be done manually. Since I have the hard top I am considering taking the rag top and it's components out of the car all together so I don't have to worry about all the leaky pneumatic pumps and actuators. Would this be well advised or no???

It would only matter if you were to sell the car in the future as it most likely would have an effect on price.

Imagine offering a convertible with no convertible top.

All of the roof hydraulic cylinders can be removed, rebuilt, and installed in one long day at a cost of as little as $15. I would leave the convertible top in place.

Thanks!

So much for all of your information! I'm new to the Mercedes world and appreciate everyone's constructive input! I really love the way this ride looks with the hard top on. So I guess I thought the rag top and it's components weighed a ton and being as this car IS SO heavy I was gonna shave a few lbs. But I can see how trying to sell it without it would be tough. I think I'll remove it, and if I decide to sell it, of course, I'll fix the leaky parts and reinstall. Thanks again!
