Behind the engine in my 1996 SL500 is a heat shield and it has a small section at the top with a fiberous heat insulation. That insulation is coming loose and I want to repair it. Must the heat shield be replaced or can that insulation just be reglued with suitable results. It looks like a rather major task to replace that whole metal shield with many controls and wiring penetrations.
