central locking from glovebox

Hello all.

The key next to the small glovebox near the passenger airbag light locks the small glovebox when turned to close. it is also supposed to lock the back storage areas behind the seat. the switch now does not close the rear compartments when turned to lock. is this a fuse issue or a relay switch issue? any input appreciated.

ALL the car locks are vacuum/pressure controlled via the PSE pump in the trunk.

Check your locking/unlocking vacuum pods for leakage and the lines that run between them and the PSE.

that's a good though however all the other central lock sections work, everything locks from the door handles and fobs. would it make sense for all those to work if there was a problem with the vacuum pods?

The pods in the storage compartment could each be bad or disconnected from their vacuum/pressure lines. Check them out make sure they work (the pods), then check the vacuum lines.

It is.

There might be a DIY somewhere and you could do a search now that you know "PSE" and "vacuum pod".

The two rear compartments come out as a pair easily enough with 4 screws and you would need a 5/16 ths open end wrench to lever between the pod and vacuum tube to make it release. After that, you would test for vacuum the human way if you don't have a Mityvac.

I do.

Read your manual. The operation of that lock in relation to the others is covered there. There was another thread on this same issue.

Yep, it's non-obvious on how this system works...could be down to "user error" (as it was in my case). I posted pics from the owner's manual in the other thread...I don't recall the thread but if you search my user profile and look up my posts, you'll find it (it was in the past few weeks).

The other thing the issue could have to do with is ... are you sure, like 100% sure, the rear storage compartments are actually closed? I noticed on mine that they can appear closed but not have the mechanism fully engaged. If that were the case, I could also see how they would then fail to lock.

According to the manual when the key is inserted and turned to position 2 which is to the right the storage compartments including rear compartments should lock. Turning to the left unlock all. mine does not do this. manhunt had some great suggestions but def is out of my skill level by a lot!
