SL/R129: ASR light

1991 SL500
ASR light
ASR light comes on randomly and causes car to go into "limp mode".Shop could not find any error codes and of course it did not act up when they test drove it.Any suggestions on where to start looking?

Just went to the dealer to have them check why me asr went on and into limp mode. They said I need the Throttle Actuator was a fault and I need a new stop light switch. Found a place to rebuild my Throttle Actuator for $290, the dealer wants $2042 for the part plus six hours of labor

ASR light
When my ASR Light came on I had to have the ETA rebuilt, and find a new computer box called the E-gas module, I found one on e-bay after looking for months for a price of $226.95 and had looked a long time for one that was a good price. The dealership what like a fortune, I also tried replacing the stop light switch. I went to an independent Mercedes Mechanic, and he had no idea, and replacing a few parts. I ended up figuring out the problem myself. Question does the cruise control work ok?

Hi everyone, Newbie here!! I purchased my 94 SL500 a year ago, had the same issue with ASR light and LimpHomeMod!!! Was qouted anywhere from $250 - $3000 to fix.. Went to my back yard mechanic friend he had a look, found the "Black Plastic Throttle Adjuster at Back of Engine that has some kinds of a plastic lock nut that was not locked to the adjuster.. tightened it up issue gone, and throttle more responsive now.. Anyone needing pic's let me know... cost $$Handshake...

Hi guys, sorry I wasn't able to reply sooner, was working outta town and my laptop quit. I'm still waiting to get it back as that's where my photos are of the repairs I've to my SL500.
But what ended up being the issue with my ASR light was the throttle cable at the back of the engine, the adjuster which is on the driver side, the cable runs thru this plastic adjuster that has a 3" hollow bolt the cable wire runs thru, that star shaped nut on mine was loose which is suppose to lock this adjusted in place. Once it was tightened, I haven't had the light come on since. I drive it to work every day. If i get my laptop back and don't loose all my info I will post pictures.

Please post photo. On my 500SL 1993 I see the star hollow screw bolt. Just wondering how far it is supposed to be screw in?? now it is about half screw in. Photo would show me how far to screw it in.

My 1991 Mercedes R129 500SL ASR light indicator turns on randomly especially when the engine is running for more than 25 minutes.
The engine is using K Jetronic fuel injection and has a mechanical fuel distributor.
After more than 30 minutes driving, the ASR light comes on and engine goes into "limp mode".
During the first 25 minutes of driving, the car perform without any problems.
The problem starts after the engine has run in for more than 25 minutes.
From existing forum, there were suggestions to check the throttle body and cable.
My mechanic has tightened the throttle cable and check the throttle body and found no problems with these .
Appreciate if someone can provide some suggestions on where to start with troubleshooting this car.
