Call Road Trip & Low Temp Top Down Personal Best

We drove a 10 hour loop from Vancouver - overnight in Oliver - to Kelowna for 2 nights and back to Vancouver today.
Top down driving all the way through varying conditions.
We came home one day early because of snow starting to accumulate at the 5,500 ft pass elevations.

Pictures from the 3 hours 45 minutes drive home today. We had some some snow flurries, some fairly heavy rain & just clouds with some sun.
The temperature did drop to 0 Celsius (32 F) for a mile or so. Quite a bit of driving at 1.5 Celsius (35 F).
We have driven in some snow (6” of slushy stuff one time) - never before top down through snow.
It was 14 C (50 F) & sun in Kelowna and is 16 C in Vancouver partly cloudy. So that’s what started us off to see how far we would get.

OK that is crazier than me
I was on Vancouver Island and we went to the top of Mt Washington and it was 6 degrees
It was cold at that temp
Well done

Chris B,

I call that riding "California Style".
In the summer, A/C set to 65 degrees and blower speed on #4.
In the winter, Heat set to 85 degrees and the blower speed set to MAX!!!

I'll say in your case, heater was set to 85 degrees and blower was on #4/5?

Question becomes, how low will you go?

Paul

It is important to have the dash vents blowing heat as well - detected at your hands on the steering wheel !
Since the R129 did not have “air scarves” in the seat - you do need a real scarf.
As one member mentioned years ago - do not fold the top when the car has been sitting in the cold - the plastic windows will shatter.
In this case we started and ended the trip in warm weather. That is the only reason we had this experience.

We drove to Palm Springs one June - it was super hot down there. About 40 C (or 110 F) ... my wife sat on a towel to wick away the sweat ...

I had the A/C blowing but my wife noticed it just was not giving much relief. As it turned out we ran out of A/C because the refrigerant had gotten too low. Was an easy fix.

We were the only people driving top down - other drivers must have thought we were nuts.

Mi 1996 SL500, 175000km is almost identical to yours, just as nice to.
You should have gone over sunny Kamloops and missed the rain and snow.
We always go topless and sleeveless.
cheers
