1993 R129.067 (500SL) wheels

I just had my front suspension and steering all fixed. To the tune of $2600. I’ve always wanted to put AMG Monoblock II rims on this car but they’re 18” and my car is supposedly setup for 16s. It came OEM with 16s and 225/55ZR16 tires.

Even adjusting for the speedometer discrepancy with the right tire size, and keeping it at, like a 1% deviation or something, will the 18s still be too hard on my suspension? Will putting on 18s wear out all the new suspension parts I just installed, earlier than if I kept on the 16s?

Which Monoblock II part #s fit the R129.067 anyway? I can’t seem to figure it out.

I really want the ok’d school Monoblocks. This car would look sick on those rims. And right now, this car is my daily driver so I really want it setup the way I’ve always imagined....thanks so much in advance,

JRH

Sure they will fit and if you get the recommended tire sizes, the speedometer will work just fine.

It's the overall outside diameter of the tire that matters to the speedometer and the new tires and rims will have the same overall diameter as the ones you have on the car now.

Get the larger rims that are made for the R129 specific offset (ET) and wheel bolt style (R12 x 40mm). If you don't know what any of this means, it means you need to do some searching.

The newer rims are wider so that will come into play for alignment.

The ride is firmer with the larger rims due to decreased sidewall flex and captured air (there's less air volume in larger rims with same outer diameter tires).

Larger rims are great for daily driven or occasional use cars, its how I use my car.

Thanks! So I shouldn’t have any excess wear to my suspension? Oh, by the way — how wide of rim can I go on the first generation chassis? 9” ?

Thanks again!

No added wear to the suspension should be expected. But on a daily driver, stuff still wears out and if for your rebuild you used suppliers other than name brand, YMMV.

I believe the 18 inch AMG Monoblock Aero II rims are 8.5 inches wide in the front and 9 inches in the rear.

Speaking of real parts, the inside of the rims will have genuine AMG part numbers like HWA 129 401 01 02 and be made in Austria.

Go find some rims.

Outstanding. Yeah, I used all OEM parts. It’s pricey but worth it, I believe...

Hi Mahunt.
I’m looking at the Aero II in an 8J x 18 all around. The offset is 31.

Do I need shorter bolts? I currently have 17 inch Albali’s (8.25 ET 34) Can I use my current bolts? 1999 SL500
Any fitment issues? Do I need spacers in the rear for a better look?

Thanks in advance.

Specific wheel information is not my strong suit.

You should gather more information about what you want to do.

This is a good place to start.
