looking for a key fob case

My key fobs look like they have been sat on by an elephant so they need new case covers. The internal components are in tact so it just the case that's needed. I saw one on Amazon but read the reviews. Apparently, the guts will go in but the case won't stay closed. Here's a link to the case on Amazon.

Amazon Amazon

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!.

I too need a fob case for the later model r129 but a genuine one. The Chinese aftermarkets falsely advertise the red lense and I kinda need the top half exactly like the original as I’m forced to use my original bottom half due to the transponder chip being cemented to it

Did you buy a key fob cover from Amazon? And if so, does every button work except the remote laser lens?

I think I found a replacement cover. It's made in Germany (where else?) and ships from there as well. Here's the link:

https://hm-electronics.nl/nl/product...baard-hu64-027

Only real issue is the website is in German. (Me no no speekie German.) Also, I tried to buy a key fob cover and had no luck. I'll keep trying and post an update.

I just took a look at your key fob. Looks like the case took a beating. If you can manage to remove the interior components and use your old key then you might be alright. Good luck! Also, is this the key case you used on Amazon? Here's the link:

Amazon Amazon

or was it his one?

First one as the second doesnt have trunk release. I'm forced to use my old key shell bottom half with the new aftermarket upper half and uncut key blade (key blade was missing) because the transponder has somehow been cemented into it. Since these cheap chinese aftermarket shells don't have that ir window and instead just extended case material, I have that ugly gap

UPDATE: I received an aftermarket key fob case and it didn't work out. There's no infrared and the fit isn't very tight, almost loose with gaps in the case. So, where does that me leave me? It leaves with the rest of my poor fellow forum members in a lurch. Perhaps one day there will be more keys available. Bummer.

If your car MY 2001, the fob needs to be exactly matching the old fob. It is most likely transponder and model year specific.
Don't give up, meanwhile MB dealer can get you a mechanical key with the Vin #.

I stumbled across this website that has an interesting method of using a Master Key that isn't attached to a key fob. The transponder(?) is still needed to start the car.

Here's the link:

After ordering several times on ebay and ending up getting the wrong cases, my local indi shop got me the correct one.

Good for you. The case I ordered didn't have an infrared lens. That turned out to be alright anyway since the computer board inside my key fob wasn't working all that well to begin with. I think the previous owner must have dropped the thing since pieces of the board fell out when I opened the case. Luckily, the micro chip was still in place so I transferred the chip into the new case and the key works. The only function missing is the remote locking and unlocking. (The car starts!) I can live with that until new key fobs become available sometime this century.

And, if key fobs don't become available I'll just have the dealer order a Master Key from Germany. That key has a micro chip and starts and locks the the car. It just doesn't have a remote function.

If the dealer can produce keys sometimes, surely there’s a stockpile of empty fob shells in Germany , right?

Good question. I would have to believe Germany would have empty shells. The question is.... how to get your hands on one. Perhaps you can try to get in touch with MBUSA because the parts guys at the dealerships are usually apathetic when it comes to hunting down parts for old cars. Good luck. (BTW, you could always order a MASTER KEY. Unlike a VALET KEY the MASTER KEY has a chip installed and will start the car. You just won't have the remote function. A local dealer can fix you up with one of those.)

I'll ask my mechanic where he got it from and if possible, I'll mail it out to you!
Stay tuned.

PM me your email and shipping address
