Yes thats true my SL600 with ESP does react different but seems with the ASR it will try to straighten out if a wheel gets loose like try a burnout with it or on wet it will stop the spinning wheel and cut power. I did get it to work last night in a safe large parking lot even got the roll bar to pop up so I guess I just got a little scared on the freeway when I swerved and had to gather it up. It was off when I crashed the car

ABS - helps in braking, so the wheels don't lock
ASR - helps in take off, so the wheels don't spin
ESP - controls yaw, which is the left-right weight shift of the car, like taking a corner
ESP includes ALL the above.

Thanks I'm back on the road again with pretty much new SL500, lighter wallet and a changed "fear factor" Aside from having ASR turned off I did have a fairly worn right rear tire too.

I have one concern about the part number on the subframe I bought, 129 350 8600 The seller stated that its1999 SL500 only however as far as I know all the R129 subframes are the same. I called the dealer and he said that number does not come up on the system. The seller had two of these and I just can't figure what could possibly be different between 98 and 99 SL500 subframe. The seller did state the VIN of both cars these came from and they are 99 SL500 US build, Does anyone know this part number.
