SL/R129: Uneven Idle

Uneven Idle
I have a lumpy idle when my car is in neutral or drive. The revs will jump up 100-200 revs approx once every 10-15 secs. Not really noticable but when i'm in D and put my foot lightly on the brake every 10 secs approx it tries to move forward as the revs risea bit.
The car is a friend's 1990 model 500SL. It has a cat converter on it. I suspected an air mass sensor, but i couldn't find anything that resembled one near the air intake.
What could the cause of this problem be? The car has been serviced regurarly and has come back from a service. The car has 62k on the clock.
