Spray tinted tail lights

Been looking at my car and figured I wanted to tint the tail lights. And being bored didn't help. I knew I should have waited til Monday to talk to the local tint shop if they do tail light tint with film (which they do) but oh well.

Here is what I did and how.

Rust-Oleum lens tint spray

Remove the tail light and put them next to each other. which helps making sure both sides are darkened equally.

About 4 layers of spray, a few mins drying time between each
Looks pretty awful for now. Flat black and pretty rough.
here back on the car... Actually looked worse in person and this is when regret set in.

But thankfully I knew i wasnt done yet.
Next, i taped the sides to protect the car paint and used 2000 sandpaper and soapy water to wet sand. Did this until paint was smooth. They also get a touch lighter.
Now they really looked dull.

Now take a polisher/buffer thingie and start polishing.
This will make them shiny.
Here after the first run and while i was waiting for a smaller pad.

And more polishing. When done, a coat of wax.

I did more detailing after the last picture which I will post tomorrow, plus other pics from different angles.

All in all it came out ok. Having done this to other cars in the past, i know the tint will fade over time and disappear. I did not add clear coat because i do want this to fade and go down the tint film route next time and see how that goes.
