SL/R129: lost reverse gear!! whats to do ?

1993 SL500 & 2010 GL450
lost reverse gear!! whats to do ?
Just got home form a 50 mile drive and put the car into reverse to put her in the garage and she wont move, it feels like its going into R and the revs drop slightly just no movement. All forward gears work fine.
Whats the first thing i need to check ? ( have checked fluid level and it was fine)
It's a '93 500 with 162k mileage.

Had a similar issue on my '93 and ended up with a Sun Valley rebuild. Very satisfied.
