I sold my 600 7ish years ago and ive been regretting it since. ended up picking up a 500 that needs love but is solid where it counts.
The nostalgia hit me pretty hard this evening when i was driving it around, i am pretty excited i must say!
The previous owner had it for 10+ years and recently had the top redone after one of the seals busted, along with a pretty thick stack of service records. it has some failing clear coat on the mirrors and the driver side skirt, and the interior leather is worn but the wood trim is perfect!
things to address:
-the valve covers are 'wet'
-the alarm keeps going off unless i click the tow button thing before i lock it
-the seats need replacing
-redo the interior
-get the mirrors and side skirt resprayed
-either get new wheels, or have the curbing repaired.
Its pretty funny because i got the go ahead from my better half to buy a 77' Targa SC today and then i saw a craigslist ad for this guy for 15% of the price of the Porsche, but moreover it just gave me an excitement the Porsche didnt... I also happen to be the high bidder on an e250 diesel wagon at the moment so there is a small risk ill be two MBs deep within the next 48 hours... ha.
Nice find! I've got the same car, 99 SL500 Sport except in black. I see you've go the Xenons projectors, do you also have the ortho seats?
Your "to do" list sounds similar to mine. I had leaking hydraulic top cylinders, leaking valve covers and busted interior plastics. Got all those items fixed.
Still have to fix my curbed up rims. My car also needed some bodywork, so that's in progress as well.
Also, I'm up in NorCal as well (east bay)
Beautiful ! I would keep the original wheels. I recently bought a 2001 white with AMG look package with only 74K miles. Love the car and just re-did the headliner. IMO, keep this car everything original is the best way.
Cheers.

Pics of the new ride?
Also feel free to join us on the benzworld forum. It's more active there and is home to a lot of socal 129 owners. We may plan a big get together someday.
Ordered new leather for the interior and roll bar cover.
Fixed the filler neck... The seller did not disclose this and i had to figure it out on my own that the little lip on the inside was bent- thankfully ive been down this path before.
Replaced the antenna grommet that was dried and broken.
Replaced the antenna mast because i forgot to turn the radio off at the car wash...
Ordered touch up paint both from the dealer and dr. colorchip- will be tackling this soon.
Taking off the mirrors, side skirts, and door handles for paint next week
Ordered new side mirrors as the driver side one is permanently tinted...
Got the Alarm Siren used from a local dismantler.
Im leaving the valve cover gaskets for late winter/early spring
I think the rear main seal is wet so ill investigate that later as well.
I forgot how much of a thirsty girl this car is, but thats alright.
Great looking car!
interested to hear, assuming all suspension parts are working as they should on your 500, how do you find the difference in ride quality/comfort between the 500 and 600 you had previous?
enjoy!
thx.
Hi:
Quick question: What problems does the filler neck issue cause?
I have been round and and round trying to fix a CEL code P0455. EVAP: changed valve, tMercedes gas cap, tank sensor, a couple of lines that a smoke test revealed nothing gets rid of the code. I clear it and by the the time the sensors all reset it comes back on.
The one thing that I have noticed is that when I do remove the gas cap I do not get that suction swoosh. Thinking maybe the filler neck is something I/ my mechanic overlooked.
Thanks

Pull the vacuum line off the evap valve on the canister side. See if charcoal bits are present if so clean out valve with brake clean or some strong cleaner spray, test valve with a couple wires on the battery to be sure it seals. Put a cheap inline fuel filter between valve and vacuum line. This will cure that code. Clean out old valve and sell it on ebay
