SL/R129: I have a (R129) fever! Find me a mechanic
Been reading up on the roof hydraulics and the other issues here. My big question is, for the things I can't do myself (and I'm willing to do or at least try some things), how does one go about finding an independent shop that doesn't insist on only using "Genuine Mercedes" replacement parts ($$$$$) in a 20 year old vehicle? Where I used to live, the guy I bought the car from recommended a place which honestly looked like a junkyard but they KNEW German cars and never steered me wrong. But I don't know any owners of older Mercedes product here in South Florida.
Should I take some aspirin and wait for the fevers to pass, or can you advise me on finding a good mechanic? Many thanks in advance.
