SL/R129: As a R129 Owner ... What will you upgrade to & when?

As a R129 Owner ... What will you upgrade to & when?
In my case I have a late model R129 and enjoy it thoroughly.
However I can’t seem to stop thinking about the R230 … the extra power for the SL55, SL600 and now the buzz around the SL65.
Thinking of it rationally, there is no way I need to upgrade.
There would be a few days of top down driving gained in the 4 months of winter here in Vancouver when we install the hard top.
I don’t need the prestige.
The extra power would just have my wife screaming at me more.
But damn it they are so beautiful! :p
I’d better start saving.

I'm still waiting for the right R129 to come along, but I may wait for a 2004 R230. I really like the idea of not having to store the hard top. Too bad these darn cars are so expensive. I would like to retire one day.

I just upgraded from a 97 to a 00. I did this because the 97 was starting to show its age and problems were starting to arise. Since I am young and do not have any children yet I opted to stay with the SL untill we have a child. Once that happens I am getting an M5. Nothing better than 400+ Hp in a 4 door. I am sorry but mercedes does not make a 4 door car that I don't feel like a Mature Adult in. I know the E55 was made to rival the M5 but the E55 just does not seem sporty to me. I always see middle age family people drivin around and it just looks soo bland....

I'm no fan of BMWs but have to agree the new M5 is outstanding, providing you can live with the looks (which I cant) and need 4 doors (which I dont). The launch control sounds especially fun.
I think Mercedes styling is about to go to pot as well. The new S class back end looks like a Maybach and the new CLS coupe thing looks like a droopy banana. All they need to do now is put the F1 snout on the SL and all will be lost, difficult to imagine it will have the same improvement as the SLK.
