SL/R129: 1992 SL, R129. Worn drivers door lock thumbler. Any tried to take it out, clean it?

1992 SL, R129. Worn drivers door lock thumbler. Any tried to take it out, clean it?
On my car the drivers side door lock thumbler is not possible to lock or un-lock the door using the key.
Any here on the forum that have tried to take the lock/thumbler out and clean it using thinner or any stuff that will clean all the tabs inside the lock and then lubricate the cleaned lock/thumbler with fresh lube.
After the lock/thumbler have been cleaned properly and lubricated i wonder if it will work again? Thinking of the fact that the lock/thumbler have been sitting there since 1992 i am sure it is a lot of dirt inside the lock and that can prevent from working as it should.
