I’ve been looking at some different SL500s and came across one that’s priced real low because the soft top and windows aren’t working. I’m in Oklahoma City and it’s in the Dallas area, so I can’t really go look at it but I was hoping to see if anyone had thoughts on if it was worth looking into and what questions I could possibly ask the seller to determine the issue. It could be a steal if I could fix it with a bit of money and time, but I’m not too sure how high in price these fixes could go. In the pictures the windows are down and the roll bar is up if that matters

The only way to get an accurate assessment is with a scanner - anything else will be guesswork. Roof and windows errors only suggests the controller which is on the floor behind the (LHD) drivers seat - and if it gets wet it can be ruined.

I talked to them on the phone and they did mention believing it needs a new control module so I’ve been looking into a replacement one. As far as the scan goes to confirm, is that something that only a Mercedes dealer could do or a mechanic can check as well?

One of the specialities my son does in the R129 is controllers and hydraulic rebuilds. The real costly stuff is the labor in removing all the latches. If you are really good at mechanical issues I would not be to worried.. control boards $500-1000 and latches well if you have 1-2 leaking best to do them all…there are a few services out there .. we use a very high quality german made seal … you can check out my sons shop on ebay also @thebenzgarage
