SL/R129: 2000 SL 500 A/C Problems

2000 SL 500 A/C Problems
Greetings... and thanks for your attention.
A/C went out. Two mechanics told me to replace the blower motor by description only. Third mechanic said the same. He replaced the blower motor
but no change in A/C working. Someone said it may be the relay control unit? (Not sure that's the right part name.)
The motor spins like a jet when attached with one lead to motor, second for grounding. Relay part also gets 12 volts when setup the same way.
Either, way, this works with no key in the ignition. Is that supposed to happen?
Don't think it's the fan control/display. Nothing changes in any setting,fan speed, temp control, etc.
Ice cold air drifts through the vents occasionally. I partially open one window and draft increases.
Any thoughts?
