Trading in my 2005 SL65 AMG

yep......I got bored with it......I want something more exciting and flashy. Guess, I have been used to the power(both hands on the steering wheel) with my 1000-hp Viper and the gawk factor

....therefore, I know I will get flamed for this, I am seriously thinking of trading it in with either the following

1. Gallardo(yellow or orange)
2. Murcielago (Yellow, orange, Lime)
3. Ferrari Spyder(Red)

if you are or know someone who wants to deal, trade in or buy it, please PM me.......It has LO-JACK and Perma Plate. It has 980 miles. Silver/Pewter

LOL why would we flame? all three of those cars are exotic supercars!!! I personally would go for a yellow murcialago if you want the attention. Nothing will get more attention. The red ferrari spyder is eh...if your talking about the 360 spyder then there are too many around. I dont know where you live but here in socal it seems as if everyone has one. huh? The gallardo i hear is the best drivers car out of the three. Specially with the increase in HP for 2006 to rival the 430 it should make for a great car. But i have always thought that what makes a lambo so special are the lambo doors. When you think of lambo's you think of the door and unfortunaly the gallardo doesn't have them.

IMHO, got to be the F430 Spyder, pictures from Geneva look great. Interesting that you are bored with your SL65, I have this feeling that once you've done a few drag starts, you think, now what? It's like a pet dog which can only do one trick. The Ferrari will really get under your skin.

Thanks.
You're serious about selling it then. Amazing change of heart after all the enthusiasm you had for the upgrades. Not a good example of MB meeting their customer's expectations.

If you are not looking for any of the electronics, the Aston DB9 is absolutely gorgeous.

If it had the options of the Bently or Mercedes, I would have gotten that car instead of my SL600.

That way someone would know I actually had a special car and not just like every other car on the corner.

Don't get me wrong, I love the SL600. I lost confidence in the brand. But, we all most not kid ourselves. With 30,000 a year being imported, you can hardly call the car "exclusive."

I love the looks of my SL600 but the only thing exclusive about the car is the "exclusive nappa leather"

Bentley will import about 2,000 to 3,000 GT's and DB9 I think is looking for 4,000 to 5,000 next year with the convertible. That is a slight difference from the 30,000 SL's.

Damn, my attitude sucks. Sorry. I guess I am a little pissed at having to do this but that is where my heart is.

Don't worry we understand, but I have a question, Does the Aston has all the gadgets and electronic stuff like the command of the SL?

No, not even close so that is exactly the problem with the car, in my humble opinion.

That's what I understand and also why I love the SL. I use a lot the voice recognition system and love it. The Aston has an incredible look but IMPO lacks of electronic advance. BMW has the electronic knowledge but I hate the new designs.

No question the SL has been an incredible commercial success for Mercedes but that is the car's undoing - there are so many of them around. Lovin's figure of 5000 Astons is not for US imports, it's for total world-wide production once the baby V8 Vantage comes on stream and if you figure 50% will come to the US, it's going to be a much rarer sight. There's only about 15-1800 DB9s being made a year, maybe 900 a year for the US.

But, as we've said, it's tough to buy a car if you live hundreds of miles from a dealership and there are only 40 of them, you cannot have exclusivity if you want a dealer within 30 minutes drive.

As for the electronics, it's certainly the case that the SL is ahead - the Aston Sat Nav looks pretty basic, there's no keyless go, no electronic key, don't know about fexibility of audio inputs like MP3, Sat Radio, iPod and so on. DVD? No.

The Aston does have a lovely instrument panel though and the quality of the paint and leather work is superb.

The convertible will also not please SL owners. At least Aston now put the cloth roof under a cover instead of just dumping it at the back, Jaguar XK/DB7 style, but Mercedes were doing that with the old Pagoda SL in the 60's. The hard roof of the current SL is an engineering marvel but it does impose some styling constraints to get it to fit and as we know from the SC430, it's easy to screw up in that department.

In the end, it's down to personal preference. I'm having both, I am not enjoying my 911 and they really are everywhere.

Viper, get the Murcie and also keep the SL65

A Murcie will not only get people looking but get people stopping, turning, pointing, getting their camera out, etc. If you want attention, a Murcie will surely satisfy.

The Murcie and SL are very different cars. The SL, even your SL65 is comfortable around town. You can set your suspension to the stiffest setting and the ride will be soft compared to the softest setting on a Murcie. You will feel every bump on the road with a Murcie. Parking her takes some getting use to, but it can be done. There is more effort in driving Murcie than SL.

Murcie doesn't burn rubber like a SL can. Its permenant 4 wheel drive with 335 rear tires means great traction even in the rain. If you do burn outs with Murcie you will be replacing the clutch every 5000km. 0-100km/h runs in 3.6s, 1/4 mile in under 12s, and top speeds >330km/h should satisfy. Personally I have only taken mine to 240km/h on 4th gear once (traffic). Murcie felt solid at that speed and I was confident to go faster if there were no traffic ahead. I have also taken my SL600 Renntech to 220km/h and did not feel as confident to go faster.

Oh yeah, get the 6 speed, not the e-gear if you are a purist. Happy car hunting

Hey nice to see another Murci owner on here, but I have to disagree about feeling every bump in town. I really don’t find the ride that harsh, as I was expecting from a Murci. But the attention does get a little weary after a while, IMO. Actually the clutch life on the Murci is a lot better than you are stating. I only just had mine replaced at 8,---miles and I drove it HARD. Ya parking takes getting use to, I'll park 1/2 away from the nearest car, lol. For the most part I really haven't had problems with parking it, the only time I had to grip the steering wheels with both hands was in a parking garage after a Preds game, other than that... Not really that different.
As for top speed runs... as I said my "evil twin brother" had it up to a 192Mph and "he" said the car was producing lift so he had to back off.
Thats what I think of the car and if you do go for the Murci contact me VIA PM... A call to John @ HP is a must.

NOTKTS, was the Hennessey upgrade worth it? There's also another upgrade with twin turbos I recall...holy crap!
