Weird Sighting on SL

I saw an SL today that had had only one exhaust pipe on each side of the back of the car, but was labeled an SL55. I thought the SL55 came with dual exhausts on both sides of the back of the car. I am thinking someone just put the different numbers on an SL500 to make it appear they have an SL55. If so, why stop there change one more and have an SL65.

Go to the airport. A great place to see stuff like this. I saw a SL500 done up the exact same way several months ago.

How pathetic.

HAHAHA! I actually saw an SL500 being fitted with the V8 Kompressor on the fenders just like what I have on the 55. In fact, it was at Ray Catena about 3 weeks ago. I went in for a courtesy wash and wondered why it was taking so long. So I went to the back showroom where you have window access to the wash/prep area. And lo and behold, there was my 55 right beside a made-to-look-like-a-55 SL500! The guy was trying to match the positioning of my V8 Kompressor emblems to the other car! This SL500 didn't even have the sport package. But it had the SL65 wheels, the smoked taillights and the Kompressor badge! What a shame! I didn't know dealers would even do that for its customer. I guess if you pay, they will do it.

The fact that a dealer would participate in this shows how low this brand is sinking.

There is a never ending amount of losers on this planet.

Thankfully, there are still many companies that produce ammunition!

haha thats so funny, the dealer will help you rebadge, LOL!

Your right, if he was going to rebadge anyways, why wouldn't he just go all the way and get the SL65 badge.

I want to rebadge my car now

I most diferr from my fellow members on that topic, is like if you own an original Picasso and blame on the other who has a replica. If a person has an SL500 (very good car ) and want to look like an SL55 ( exelent car) that's his consern and why a owner of an SL55 feel unconftable with a replica on his car if he owns a original and enjoy any minute of it. Likewise the owner of the replica who see it and enjoy like if he having and original one.

With all due respect, your thinking is ridiculous and your comparision has absolutely no relavance in today's society.

A replica of a one of a kind painting is a very normal situation. Comparing this to replicating a badge on a car is absolutely ridiculous.

Please Carlos?

Carlos my friend, read your words.

You are comparing a Picasso to a Mercedes Benz. The rarest form of art to a few nicely put together pieces of metal of which they produce about 250,000 a year.

Many in this world would become outraged by such a comparison.

SL65 AMG
I did the exact opposite of the guy putting SL55 markings on his SL500. Within an hour of having my SL65AMG in the garage at home I had debadged everything. Car looks much better without all the lettering. I have always ordered my Porsches debadged from the factory. Too bad MB does not offer a debadge option.

Are you able to talk me into selling my 2005 SL600 and buying a 2006 SL65?

I don't see it happening

I have read some articles from different online sources and have yet to see anything that would make you choose the SL65 over the SL600. The one thing I have noticed is that two dealers I recently talked to were both pushing the SL65 to me. Wonder why that is??????

I think it has to do with that piece of paper that has a picture of the President on it...or for Carlos, maybe it comes with a Picasso.

Whatever keys I grab first...
Lovin' and Stephen:

Ok, so maybe there are a few SL500 owners that like our/you/this car (SL600) so much, they went and rebadged the vehicle, so what? Does this really effect your daily life in any way? I find it kind of funny seeing a SL500 with SL600 badges, missing the "V12" from the side. Not bad, not everyone can afford the 140K price tag, 200 for the badges seems much more of a bargin, espically if the person is doing it for looks, and never races-- no one, but hardcore Benz enthusiasts will ever have to the slightest clue that he/she does not infact have a V12 resting under the hood. My point of view.

Best Regards,
John

Call me foolish but I have a problem with people that are fake, phoney and dishonest. To me, personally, I couldn't give a sh#t. When I see this in a parking lot I just put a piece of paper on the car that says, "nice try".

There is just no need for people to try to pretend to have something they don't. It is not even a money issue, it is one of character.

It is just stupid. Be confident in yourself to be who you are. If you think you as a person are defined by what car you drive or how expensive your car is then you should save the money on the badge or any car for that matter and go see a psychologist because you got bigger problems than the badge.

Regards as well.

SL500 and A-CLASS
I remember last summer at a red light I saw a red Ford Escort. It pulled in front on me, and I laugh so hard that it hurt. The Escort had a Mercedes badge and SL500 in the rear and the Jaguar thing on the hood. It is very common thing to see that in my area.

I do see Carlos point of view with the Picasso comparison. In my area, some of the SL owners really cannot afford a SL and use up there saving just to have a SL. In that case, they always badge up. On the other hand, I usually see kids re-badge up on their cars. I guess they want to stand out or an image thing.
