I am trying to give some advice to my dad who recently had a rock hit the hood of his new BMW, and now he has a chip in his paint. It's not a big chip, but it bothers him. Can anyone give me some recommendations on the best way to repair such a thing.

I know this is an of topic thread, but I figured this group of people would know what to do.

Any advice appreciated.

Go here. Get the touchup paint from the dealer and get some Langka.

Does that Langka stuff really work? My CLK has a small colony of rock chips around my grille, oh the woes of buying second hand.

Yes and no.

I did it of some chips and I cannot find them to put on the clear coat. On two chips it lighten the touch up paint. It takes practice.

A. REMINDERS: Do NOT use LANGKA...The Blob Eliminator on vehicles
between 1920-1965 that have the ORIGINAL paint. If they have been
repainted, test this product first.
1. As our web site states in numerous locations, LANGKA is designed
to work on manufactures pre-mixed touch up paint, those little
pre-mixed bottles you buy in auto parts stores OR your auto dealership in the
parts department. You will need this paint for the repair. (LANGKA may
work too quickly on paint mixed at a body shop or a paint supply
business for body shops. If you use this type of paint, let it dry for days.)
2. Be sure to let this paint dry from 2 hours up to 4 days before
removing the excess paint with LANGKA. For Scratches, we recommend you let
the paint dry over night and be sure to rub perpendicular to the
scratch when removing the "Blob". Rub slowly, and as the "blob" begins to
smooth down, rub lighter. Alternative methods have been develop, so be
sure to view our the website directions for scratches at
http://www.langka.com/index.cfm?page...#repairingdeep. USE
a clean, smooth cloth...like an old bed sheet (best) or T-shirt but NOT
a terry towel!!!). In summary, please view our GENERAL DIRECTIONS at
http://www.langka.com/index.cfm?page...works.cfm(with graphics) and
scroll down for our DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS.
B. WEB SITES TO VIEW
Interestingly enough, we have many users of our product who are
building web sites (independent of LANGKA) that demonstrate the process of
repairing chips. You may want to check out one of these sites for a
rather detailed explanation with close-up photos of the process. Just click
on the hyperlinks provided below:
1. http://www.billsworkshop.com/P928S4/langka.htm
2. http://www.impalahq.com (Click on the "how to" button and scroll
down this page to a photo of a bottle of touch up paint and click on it.
This will open the page). Another site is:

There is 6 rock chips above the grill and below the small Mercedes badge that got fix by Langka.

Touchup Paint Applicators
You can also use these. The Langka stuff sounds really cool. This way is much more labor-intensive and it takes perhaps a lot more patience because you have to build the paint up to level with the original paint.

Anyway, I've used it with decent results, but if Tiggerfink is saying that he can't see some of his touch-up locations, WOW, I would try that stuff.

I just orderd some of this off the Langka web site based on your recommendation.

I had got MB touchup paint a year ago but never put it to use for fear of messing it up. I had previously read posts about using fine sand paper. That manual pocess required special cleaners, special materials and clear coat.

The full chip treatment package from Langka seems to have all the accessories I might need.

Thanks for the tip.

The first day I used it, I rub too hard and took off all the touchup paint. Just rub lightly and you will get good results. It took me about 4 tries and I had to let the paint dry for 24 hours to get good results. On some touch up work with Langka you will see the touch up paint.
