Has anyone removed the center rear brake light from their R230. I was wondering how difficult it was to remove and then replace this brake light.

 

It is not that bad. I can let you know how to do it. You will most probably need new pins so I would get those before attempting but it is not too difficult.

On my SLK, my dealer replaces the bulbs for free.

 

There are no bulbs in this light that can be changed. If it does not work, the whole light will need to be replaced.

It is much more difficult than just changing bulbs unfortunately.

 

Wouldnt it be cool to replace with a clear lens? are the LED's red? that would be a neat project...so would clear corners for a clk but noone has them!!

 

The light has a lot of tiny little diod type lights that are used throughout the light.

It is very hard to see them as the unit is mostly closed by I do remember looking and I believe they are white.

At any rate what you are suggesting, while it would be cool, is not possible. This is a manufactured complete unit.
