Let's give Prolix a break; he is just sharing his excitement about his SL purchase and such; i do have a question though, Prolix...i haven't followed every thread recently, and your bio says you are expecting a 2006 SL 500- did you change your mind, because the last post on your SL 55 impression indicated that you were leaning towards a 55 vs a 500. Maybe i missed something or you changed your mind. Let us know....

Well, that's the difference between owning an SL55 like you do and wanting one like I do. If I owned one, I would probably think that video was quite lame, but since I don't and I haven't seen too many videos featuring one, I enjoyed it (now is the obligatory opportunity for those who don't own an SL to chime in and tell me they thought it sucked also.) :-)

VKAPOORMD - Thanks for reminding me I need to change my bio. from 500 to 55!

Congrats Prolix!!!, did you bite the bullet then and spend the extra $$$ on a new one? either way, you'll be happy with the upgrade to the 55; after driving it myself (again after having tested out the 500 and contemplating it), i found it hard to go for 500. Enjoy!!!!

Prolix, if you don't mind, how much did you pay for your '06 SL55?

No, I will be getting a used one, either an '04 or '05 - not enough warranty left on an '03. I would be nervous owning this car out of warranty.

you should be able to score a good deal on a used one, since it's already taken the major depreciation hit; have you found one to your liking yet?

Gorgeous car, but Boris and the music was a bit of a distraction. I'm glad to hear you upgraded to the "55" series. I'm beginning to think ALL forum members belong in 55's ! Enjoy !

Well, there was the one I test drove the other day that I posted about here - this was an '03 with 13,000 miles that had all the options except the pano. roof. The guy was asking $99,000 - KBB lists the value at $94,025 - but KBB doesn't allow you to add any of the options available on an SL, so their value is low I believe. This car was the right color, and was in very good condition, but my intuition was telling me I should not buy the car. For example, I asked the owner if the car had ever been in to the shop (he had only owned it for 7 months), and he said "just for an oil change". But at one point he went in his house and I was sitting in the car alone, and I happened to pull up the center armrest cover and inside was a recent receipt from the service department which said "customer complaining of strange noises coming from the engine". I didn't have time to read anymore because I heard him returning, so I quickly closed the armrest and didn't ask him about it. At that point I knew I would not be buyng the car from him. So the search continues..............

Great discovery on the paperwork, poor seller. Don't you hate dishonest people.
