06 Almost Ready!

My 06 SL600 is almost ready, the dealer said it is a couple of days from being complete. When it gets on a boat, how long do you think it will take to get to Jacksonville, Florida?

How can your 06 be ready when it is not listed at mbusa?

IT Is Almost Ready

Are referring to the MBUSA website, and the fact that they still show 05's for the SL. I have been waiting for it to change to the 06, but as of yet it hasn't. The dealer is telling me to expect delivery around the 20th of June. It seems quick from Germany to Jacksonville, but that's their business.

The 06 is not listed on www.mbusa.com. So how do you know about what is on the 06 model? Does it have the hidden Sirius Antenna?

Antenna

The dealer gave me a list of options available for the 600. The Sirius radio antenna is still mounted on the trunk, and I passed on the option. If I go with the service I will get a hidden installation like others have already done. It surprises me that they didn't figure out a way to include it hidden on the SL. But with a multiple disc changer and DVD capability in the command unit, it can hold all the music I need to hear. The Sirius radio is not an important option for me.

The 2006 model year probably won't be listed on MBUSA.com until early July, possibly late June.

I know several people that have completed 2006 SL models which are already on the boat headed for the USA. They started production of the 2006's in May.

Once on the boat the Dealer can give you an exact time frame the boat will arrive.

I remember when I got my car they landed it in Baltimore and trucked it over to the west coast. The time from Germany to Baltimore was 11 days. I suspect Florida isn't more than another 2 or 3.

Better check with your dealer to see if the Sirius is standard equipment. Other members are stating it is standard on the car, and they are making sure that the dealer installs to antenna.

Getting Closer

The dealer called a couple of weeks ago and said my car should be here around the 20th, once it is on a boat they would know for sure. They are only a few miles away from the port where the car comes in too, which makes delivery even quicker. They mentioned that if I changed my mind about the sirius antenna, they could still have it installed at what I think he called the VPC. The way I understand it, the Sirius is standard, but I don't want the antenna on the trunk. I have to ask them, but I did not get the impression that they would install the hidden antenna at the dealership. I got the impression that would be an aftermarket installation that would need to be done elsewhere. I will check again.

The Nashville and Memphis dealer would install the after market Sirius antenna. The Nashville dealer has a special kit, which consists of sticking a metal plate to the bottom of the hood grate, and the antenna with a magnetic bottom would stick to the plate. The Nashville will also give you a 10% on parts and labor for being a MBCA member.

So have your service manager call the Nashville dealer about Sirius antenna kit and installation. After you activate your Sirius, I would recommend that you call Sirius to get the life plan. Sirius will give you credit for the 12 month subscription that you get with Mercedes for a total of $357.

If you have a VIN you can figure out the ship's landing yourself. Go to http://www.2wglobal.com/www/wep/index.jsp on IE, not mozilla, and plug in your numbers in Cargo Tracking. Once you have the ship, go to Schedules for the arrival time.

If you want to track the ship across the Atlantic, plug in the ship's name to get the call sign in the Ship Search at http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shiplocations.phtml

Any mention of cosmetic changes? I've seen the autospies pics, but I haven't read anything that actually confirms this...

There are no changes, other than Sirius being a freebie now.
Expect a minor facelift for 2007 and a motor change it will release mid 2006.

??? ship number

My dealer emailed me this today:

"The car is at the port with a ship number."

Thru an earlier post I in this thread, I went to the website to track the car, but nothing yet, probably since it is not on the water. Will the VIN# they gave me allow me to track it or do I need to find out what the ship number is.

Hey Steve,

Remember StephenK is on the east coast so his boat travel time is about 12-14 days. You being on the west coast is about 26 days. It is conceivable that his car could arrive to the USA earlier than yours.

Would that be unbelievable...?

Lovin

You have to start with the VIN. Then you can click Auto Cargo at 2wglobal site under Cargo Tracking and use your VIN as the Cargo ID. It might with only the last 7 characters or the whole VIN but I don't remember. Tracking will display a Cargo Status History, showing your car as one or more of the following:

BOOKED
RECEIVED AT TERMINAL
LOADED ON VESSEL
DISCHARGED (at Port of Destination)

You will then know what the ship will be. You will have to look up the call sign on the sailwx site if you want to follow it.

The mentioned travel time of 10 to 14 days longer to get to the west coast thru the canal is right on.

No unbelievable at all. Just about what I expected...sigh. Oh well we'll see. I'm trying to figure out how to find out just where the prestige ace is today.

Here is the VIN

Here is the VIN WDBSK76F46F109427 of the new car.

I am unsuccesful with the shipping website, if anyone can help me find out how to track it, I would appreciate it.

Check again later with the VIN. The shipping line posting runs a little slow or the car is at the port waiting to be checked in.
