Considering an SL600

Well folks, my CLK500 lease is about up and I'm growing tired of the gymnastic routine required to ingress/egress my Diablo 6.0. Both will soon be gone, but I have begun a search in earnest for the right SL600.

Somewhat flexible on color, but Nav is a must and mileage must be below 7500.

Any ideas of what I should expect to pay? I'm seeing about $100K -$130k, right?

All SLs have Nav and it's EZ to find low mileage cars. I'd look for an '05 because of the new DVD Nav. Must have options for me are: voicetronic, distronic, panorama roof, keyless go, and parktronic.

You can definitely find '04 600s for $100k. Sad, but true.

I have seen several 04's for 100K...

Best deal I have found on a new one was $125k with every option except the sport package.

Talk to me about mods...
Who's chip gets me how much hp?
Exhaust gets me how much hp?
LSD mod: is there one?
What else am I missing?

There are three 2004 SL600s on ebay at the moment. All priced under $100K.

The Renntech ECU and tranny upgrade will bump you to 625HP and 745lbs of torque... for $6000
I think the those numbers are inline with the SL65...

I just checked Ebay and could not find any 04 SL600 priced under $100K Most are 05's and well over $100K. There is one Renntech model that has an opening bid suggestion of about $76K but this is just to get the auction started. There is a "Reserve" and I am sure it is well above $100K!

What was it about the V12 that did not suit you, if I may ask?

Why don't you do a search of certified pre-owned cars to get a sense of prices? It is a good place to start; however, you can expect to do better in a private transaction.

Craig: I have a 04 Sl600 and I can tell you that it is a fantastic automobile. The power is ferocious. It will make your LAmbo feel anemic. I know because I have a Diablo. The fit and finish on my car is supurb. Beautiful walnut trim with rich leather fully stiched. The top comes down to boot! You can not go wrong with this car. Drive it please, then you will know. Now I have a friend with a 04 SL55AMG. The supercharged V8 is very nice. I have the same engine in my S55. Stock for stock the Sl600 will outrun the Sl55. Big difference in torque and Horsepower. don't believe MB stats on the 600. anyone who had a 03 or newer 600 on the dyno will see around 525HP. MB rated the 600 very conservativley. Drive both. Then pick the one you want. I went for the SL600 and never looked back! Good Luck Craig.

Saw it...looks like he's the second owner (already) and the car has 13,000 miles. Too many for me and the fact that the car is so new but already has been through 2 owners makes me suspect.

None of the 2004s I saw for $99K had the Designo and Sport packages like this one. Whoever wins it is getting a good deal IMO, it still has all the factory warranty remaining.

I'd only go 2005 or newer because of the DVD navigation option.

Considering now ordering a 2006, but the delivery will take nearly 3 months.

Black Opal is not a Designo color.

From the pictures it appears to be Black Mocha or Graphite... not Black Opal. From the interior and floor mats, it appears to be a Designo packaged vehicle.

I thought you said that you drove it and preferred it to the SL55. Why the reliance on pictures?

If you are talking about the thread I started, the car I drove was at Tysinger Mercedes in Hampton, VA and it was a 2005 (it was mistakenly advertised as being a Designo, it was a Sport packed car only). I have never seen or driven the 2004 Sl600 Designo/Sport on Ebay. Sorry for any confusion.
