Time For New Brakes ?

Hi -

My SL500 has 16K miles. I drive it pretty soft - no track or anything, no street racing ( without the renntech upgrade it's not that fast anyway ). I am starting to hear some noise whenever the brakes are used especially if I just use light pressure on the pedal.

The car was serviced four months ago and there was nothing mentioned concerning the brakes.

Should I take the car in to the dealer and have them check the brake wear? I just don't know if 16K miles is too soon and all the brakes make a little noise or what ?

If you can not stop anymore you need new brakes. I am at 19,000 and my brakes looks good.

That may be a little too late when that happens. Mine squeeks too at around 17k too, but I just don't know.

Depends on the noise...

If it is a metal on metal noise - new pads.
If it is a whirling noise it is probably just the wheels on the road surface?

should be sensors built into the brake pads to light up a warning in the dash cluster showing brakes needed. do not worry if this is not happening.

Sensors...

Hmmm I am never too fond to trust sensors. I found that my brakes were completely gone and yet no sensors came on. Best to be on the safe side i think.
