It's the Active Body Control, i think. it should react on 0.0150 seconds, or something, but suddenly they don't work right anymore, because it react to slow. I've read about 25.000 recall at at all mercedes SL's in a special age of year in europe because that the ABC dosen't work, but i can't remeber what age of model it was Damn grammer eh? age of model..special age of yeah..lol. Hope you know what i mean. For example "all SL's between october 2002 and august 2003 was recalled because ABC reaction problems" thats what i mean, but i don't remeber what age it was sorry...but i'll try to figure it out

My vibration on my '98 E320 for years comes and goes like it was caused by a harmonic from two sources, which re-inforce and cancel each other out. I found one wheel rim which wobbled ever so slightly, about 1/16th" measured 10" from the center. I removed this wheel and switched it with the spare, which improved the ride some. I suppose I could have bent it when I hit the curb once, which required a re-alignement. Or, would it be possible to bend a rim by improper torquing, as when the first lug is overtorqued before the others are fastened? I watched them do this, once around and they are finished. But to get back to the problem, could a slight wobble in one or two wheels running at the same speed be the cause, or is such a vibration dependent on another source like ordinary engine vibration in conjunction with wheel wobble? Once you get over 70 mph the harmonic vibration becomes unnoticeable.

I had an odd vibration in my SL55 and it turned out to be motor/trans mounts.
It may be worth a look if they can't figure it out

Guys... original post just celebrated it's three year anniversary.
I thought it was odd. This board has been a little sleepy lately. I haven't seen this much activity on a post in a long time.
Good to see guys still want to help!

John, from Friedolin. In my post above I reported on a vibration which came from the wheels. At one time I hit the curb slightly, enough to get a wheel alignment because of it. But one or two rims were bent ever so slightly which subsequently set up a harmonic vibration which faded in and out and drove me nuts for years. As far as your vibration is concerned, bet it is still there with the top down, there just is too much wind noise for you to notice. I would concentrate on the tires and rims. If you cross-rotate the wheels and the vibration changes, you would have proof of it. :-)
